In March, PHA Qld Patron Emeritus Professor Clive Moore travelled to the Solomon Islands as a guest of the Australian High Commission to take part in the commemoration of 40 years of independence from the United Kingdom.
Professor Moore visited the Solomon Islands from 19-23 March, where his recently published book Making Mala: Malaita in Solomon Islands 1870s-1930s was launched by Prime Minister Rick Houenipwela at an Australia Alumni Gala Dinner. He also presented at Malaita’s leading secondary school, gave a public lecture on Tulagi at the Solomon Islands National University in Honiara, and explored the history of Honiara with Australian High Commission staff.
Professor Moore has received the Cross of Solomon Islands – the highest award ever given to an academic – for his historical work in Solomon Islands. One of his major achievements was creating the largest digital encyclopaedia for any Pacific Islands nation – the Solomon Islands Historical Encyclopaedia – which consists of over 700 entries and 1000 images.
Professor Moore continues his research on another two books dedicated to Tulagi and Honiara.
