As a part of his research into the art of Queensland before 1859, PHA Qld member Timothy Roberts has looked into the life and work of early Darling Downs squatter Thomas John Domville Taylor.
Taylor arrived on the Downs by 1842 and was one of the earliest European settlers to visually record the landscape in which he lived and worked. He also kept a diary of the 1845 expedition led by Christopher Pemberton Hodgson in search of explorer Ludwig Leichhardt.
On 9 December 2020, PHA Qld member Timothy Roberts presented new research on the life and work of early Darling Downs settler and artist Thomas John Domville Taylor to members of The Royal Historical Society of Queensland. The RHSQ has now released this presentation on their YouTube channel. Biographies on Taylor’s life have also been uploaded to the Harry Gentle Resource Centre and Design and Art Australia Online.
