It was terrific to see the work of PHA Qld historians Jennifer Harrison and Ray Kerkhove included in the ‘Life in Irons: Brisbane’s Convict Stories’ at the Museum of Brisbane. This exhibition delves deep into the Queensland State Archives collection to highlight some of the grittier realities of life in the penal settlement at Moreton Bay during the formative years of the city. Accompanying these works are significant examples of uniforms from public and private collections nationally, and a group of works by artist Danie Mellor. The Museum has made excellent use of technology throughout the exhibition to add to visitors’ experiences, and is well worth a visit. The exhibition runs until 28 October 2018 at the Museum of Brisbane, City Hall, Brisbane.
