On Thursday 19 July, two historic business figures in Queensland, George Marchant and John Moffatt, were inducted into the Queensland Business Leader’s Hall of Fame. The annual award recognises the public contribution made by leaders of business to the reputation of Queensland and its economic and social development.
Marchant, a cordial manufacturer, not only generated significant business in Queensland, but fuelled by a deep religious and humanitarian sensitivity, was a significant philanthropist to health and education in Queensland. Moffatt, an entrepreneurial miner, raised significant capital to expand mining operation throughout Queensland’s north, generating new wealth that ensured the area’s expansion.
