On Monday 10 July, the Annerley-Stephens History Group Inc celebrated the launch of Stories of Stephens – A history of Annerley and the surrounding suburbs. This publication, compiled by Stephen Sheaffe, features a selection of papers which expand on discussions presented in the Stories of Stephens conference in February 2016. Several PHA (Qld) members contributed their expertise to the publication, including Neville Buch, Chris Dawson, Ray Kerkhove and Beryl Roberts.
The volume is a fine example of the important work that historians achieve in recording, preserving and interpreting local histories, which are indelibly interconnect with larger historical frameworks. Their specificity on a more focussed area allows effective and nuanced interrogation of their topic, and reveals finer points that may be less recognisable in histories encompassing a broader survey.
Any members who are interested in purchasing a copy of Stores of Stephens can do so online from the Annerley-Stephens History Group website. A limited number of copies are also available for sale at Matthews Real Estate, 678 Ipswich Road Annerley, and The Royal Historical Society of Queensland, 115 George Street Brisbane.
