A historian and curator with a strong interest and passion for Queensland, Australian, New Zealand and Pacific history and culture.
In February 2020 I relocated to Canberra (ACT) to take up a senior policy officer role in historic heritage with the federal Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.
I have a lengthy history and heritage experience, including an array of research, heritage assessment and management, curatorial and collection management roles with a number of government departments, local councils, museums and historical societies.
Author/Co-author of some 70 publications, including books, chapters, journal articles, government and legal reports.
I also have considerable background and experience in cultural heritage research and management while engaged in various capacities for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and the Environmental Protection Agency. I have also held a variety of curatorial and collection management roles with the Queensland Museum (Southbank) and The Workshops Rail Museum (North Ipswich), the museums network of the Moreton Bay Regional Council (for the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum and the Redcliffe Museum), the Victoria Barracks Museum (now Army Museum South Queensland), Petrie Terrace, Brisbane, as well as the Main Roads Heritage Centre in Toowoomba.

An independent historian researching and writing histories and significance assessments for institutions, organisations and individuals. My style of writing draws on high level research of primary and secondary sources that are presented in a narrative style. This approach provides academic level research that is readily comsumed by the general reader. I endevour to provide an empathetic view of history though weaving the lived experience of individuals into my narratives. History should be felt while it is learned.
